Blog response to snoozestreamz article ” McCarthy now uncertain about November mayoral run “

By admin, 3 September, 2010, No Comment

I agree with Max. Mr. Guerrero has my vote.

In terms of newspaper vision/bias: it is important to note that last year I gave a key note address immediately following United States Representative Ron Paul as a representative of exemplar activism, an ambassador of San Marcos, Texas to the city of Victoria, Texas.  This speech, also on youtube is entitled, “Holding the Line With Local Activism: Two Victories for Liberty in San Marcos, Texas.”

Newstreamz refused to run the story because “they are a hyper-local” news outlet. The speech was relevant to my campaign. Mr. McCarthy has not even filed for a position. And, yet we find a story from another city. And, yes the photo is over TEN MONTHS OLD. The San Marcos Mercury had the video as their enclosure to the story, perhaps this paper could have requested permission to utilize a still photo from the youtube video. Newstreamz also failed to run coverage of my speech opposing the development over the Aquifer, although a reporter was present. And, many other citizen’s voices were not reported at the onset of this whole boondoggle.

Thank you to the almost 5,000 people that voted for me in 2008. And those that went to the polls in support of our campaign in 2009 on two occasions. This year I am assisting civic minded candidates coaching debates, social media, door-to-door and phone banking. Maybe now that I’ve said it publically, Newstreamz will use more current photos to cover the 2010 election.

In San Marcos, TX we work with law enforcement, and therefore I have never been arrested. Nor, was I arrested when we had our Freedom Ride to Austin, TX State Capitol with area youth back in the 80′s. There was (0) news coverage.

Personally, I always find it refreshing to find counter protesters at a smart action event. And, we always end of laughing together. And, it is even more satisfying to see more Republicans via the Tea Party Movement, actually pick up a sign, and go protest. Let us remember that it was brave actions by people like Dr. King, who also marched, were arrested, and spoke out to the media – which allowed this President to get elected.

Fourth estate in san marcos texas still residing strong

By admin, 20 July, 2010, No Comment

“However, the largest single contributor overall since the start of 2010 is San Marcos real estate investor Scott Gregson, who made a $2,000 cash contribution to Thomaides and an in-kind contribution of $589.56 to the same candidate. Gregson also made a $240.00 in-kind contribution to Thomaides during the reporting period from Oct. 26, 2009 to Jan. 15, 2010, bringing his contributions to Thomaides during the last two reporting periods to $2,829.56. Gregson is the publisher of San Marcos Local News.”
http://www.newstreamz.com/2010/07/18/thomaides-narvaiz-top-city-council-fundraisers/

Last year the reporter admitted that the story of “sign gate” was edited. Why, perhaps because the owner of newstreams was supporting another candidate, you can pull the financial reports and see for yourself. All the facts were cleverly eliminated form the article. The FACT that Thomaides supporters do not see the chamber connections with Mr. Gregson is troubling. So, our Mayor has the SMDL and Thomaides has newstreams. Nothing is new in San Marcos politics. I suppose the people will get the leadership they deserve. And, in this economy it is very troubling.

Another example is the failure to report my standing against the tract of land being developed over the Aquifer. Being that Mr. Gregson was supporting Thomason, is this why my advocacy was never reported during the run-off election? I noted that every other meeting after the election the citizen’s advocacy was reported opposing the development. I spoke at City Council meetings and a reporter was present. http://lmc4sanmarcos.com/?p=388

It is all quite humorous, especially when Mr. Gregson asked me to do a live tv show for him and thanked me for what i do in the community before the end of filing dates last year. He ended up supporting first Mr. Maycock and then Mr. Thomason. He expressed in this phone conference that he was quite impressed with our live call in show and yet not only never supported me, but never followed thru on his request that I do live shows for him.

Coppoletta vs. Porterfield? Do the mathematics . . . .

By admin, 18 July, 2010, 1 Comment

The Year 2007: “In Place 1, Kim Porterfield defeated Betsy Robertson, 1,314 to 1,265 on Nov. 6.”

The Year 2008: “Place 4 Christopher Jones, who defeated challenger Lisa Marie Coppoletta by a vote of 6,165 (55.60 percent) to 4,923 (44.40 percent).”

Coppoletta = 4,923 – highest number votes received in a campaign
Porterfield = 1,314 – her first campaign run

That is a difference of 3,609 =)

San Marcos Mayoral Race – Letter to the Editor

By admin, 8 July, 2010, No Comment

screen-capture-1 It is my understanding that John Thomadies has announced his bid for the San Marcos mayoral position. And, though his mayoral bid might be a refreshing change from our current mayor for many citizens of San Marcos, it is not enough of a change to stem the economic and environmental challenges facing our futures. Without a challenge from one of our many talented citizens to offer a more “out of the belt way” approach to the operations of city government, it appears that John Thomaides is a shoe in. After the last election cycle, I for the most part decided to not run for office again but continue to do what I do best, community activism. Yet I propose to challenge John Thomaides for mayor of San Marcos if no one else is willing to step up to the plate.

“The Blight Which Project?”  Documentary News Report

THE BLIGHT WHICH PROJECT? BLIGHT IN SAN MARCOS PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
Segment 1 of a 3 part report. Join SMNL as we drive throughout San Marcos to investigate the various types and locations of blight in our community. As we get to the root causes and the implications of to effects of blight.

PART 1: What exactly is BLIGHT? It appears to be a double edge sword but with one edge exponentially sharper than the other as it relates to environmental racism. E.R. protocols enacting or enforcing any policy, practice, or regulation that negatively affects the environment of low-income and/or racially-homogeneous communities at a disparate rate than affluent communities can be consider a Blight Which Project.

Citizen Outsider Rough Cuts 2008 & 2009 Footage

By admin, 21 December, 2009, 1 Comment

Wanted to share some clips as the project shell for this chapter in the documentary is being edited between massive amounts of sleep. So far, since last year, 18 tapes have been digitized with 18 more to go. These are just a few clips from the last days of the runoff election 2009 for San Marcos City Council. There are many more hours of footage from these very days to be integrated into the clips that demonstrate time compression/expansion and all that goes into running a grass roots political campaign.

Below are some of my fav rough cuts from the 2008 race for San Marcos City Council.
