Commissioner’s Court Votes 5 to zip to KEEP $ for Air Quality Programs in Central TX

Below is my speech from this past Tuesday. I just found out our elected officials voted to KEEP the funding. A program they had a motion on the table to cut.

I stand opposed to “miscellaneous item number 25″ we should continue funding.

I am here on behalf of the children of Central Texas and the veterans who have served our great nation suffering health effects of a respiratory nature.

The modern Hippocratic Oath, written in 1964 by Dr. Lous Lasanga states  “I will prevent disease wherever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.”  And, “I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those of sound mind and body as well as the infirm.”

This organization saves money in the long term in terms of health care costs and environmental clean up. In the short term it will decrease illness and pollution. This is a proactive organization. Again, the Oath states “prevention is preferable to cure.”

I also found one of the organization’s websites is http://www.cleanschoolbus.net a wonderful resource to educate the harms of diesel exhaust as a health hazard for children.

Thank you for your time.

Here is the link to the article about the issue.

The County Judge, who we helped get elected, is a Physcian, this is why the Oath is relevant to the speech.

ps the actual speech was (a) the agenda with notes scribbled on it (b) handwritten 1 page front and back full sentence sound bites of main talking points – don’t type up no manuscripts cuz that is how debaters roll!!!

UPDATE: I was mis informed by staff at the county. Please see commentary at this link.
